Carlos Alcaraz has drawn comparisons from himself and Jannik Sinner to the rivalry between Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer

Carlos Alcaraz has compared himself and Jannik Sinner to Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer, stating that he hopes they have ‘a long and wonderful future ahead’.

Alcaraz is attempting to become only the seventh man to complete the sunshine double, having defended his Indian Wells championship last week.

During his march to the Indian Wells title, Alcaraz stopped Sinner’s 19-match winning streak, marking the latest installment in their simmering rivalry.

And the world number two has shared what he has learned from the 40-match rivalry between Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer.

“What I’ve learnt from this rivalry is that you should never fall behind, quit up, or settle. Alcaraz said that you must constantly improve and elevate your level. “It doesn’t matter if you think that you are at your highest level, that you can’t give more, you can always give a little more.”

He went on, “That is what they have demonstrated for so many years that they have been up there.” Every time one of them lost to the other, they worked harder to win the next time. And they’ve been doing it for a long time, which is fantastic and admirable.

If Alcaraz and Sinner want to continue their battle this week, both must get to the final as the top two seeds at the Miami Open.

The Spaniard has hinted that he and Sinner may be the next big rivalry on the ATP Tour. “Right now, people believe it could be with Jannik. Hopefully, Jannik and I have a long and lovely future ahead of us. That way, I hope to be able to offer my all and continue to improve as a result of his influence.”

Alcaraz will face former top ten player Gael Monfils in the Miami Open fourth round later today, hoping to join Sinner there.
