Breaking: Green Bay Packers Sign 29-Year-Old Veteran

The Green Bay Packers signed veteran kicker Greg Joseph this morning.

Joseph is a veteran kicker who has played extensively in the NFL, most recently with the Minnesota Vikings this season. Joseph turned 29 recently and is coming off a rough season with the Vikings. Joseph will now join the Green Bay Packers in the aim of regaining his previous form.
The Green Bay Packers revealed a new signing this morning, after signing free agency kicker Greg Joseph. The South African-born kicker is one of the top available free agents at the position, and he now joins the Packers on a one-year contract after spending the previous three seasons with the Vikings.

Joseph joins the Packers with an 82.6% career kick completion rate and 446 career points. Joseph has been a reliable kicker in the NFL, but his most recent season as a starter may have been his worst ever. The accurate kicker should add depth and understanding to the Green Bay Packers team.

The Green Bay Packers have a plan, and acquiring Joseph to provide depth behind one of the league’s best kickers next year is part of it. The Packers plan to add competition for Anders Carlson in the aim of bringing out the best in the kicker. Joseph was not only signed to compete; he will also serve as one of the top backup kickers available.

Carlson’s most notable flaw this season was his extra-point accuracy, which ranked 33rd in the league. Perhaps the inclusion of Joseph will help Carlson develop as an all-around kicker.

Joseph, in his first season with the Vikings, appeared to be another kicker on the rise, with a huge leg and superb accuracy. However, Joseph’s productivity has declined over the last two seasons. While Joseph has struggled, he has also witnessed a decrease in his attempts over the last two seasons as the Vikings offense struggles.

Perhaps with a change of scenery in Green Bay, Joseph can resume landing deep kicks for his side.
