Hull City boss shares update on striker’s fitness ahead of Stoke City and Leeds United games

Hull City manager Liam Rosenior has admitted that Aaron Connolly’s recovery from the injury he sustained against Norwich City in January has taken time.
Hull City’s striker was clattered by Norwich City goalkeeper Angus Gunn, resulting in a shoulder injury and concussion.

Connolly, 24, has subsequently seen his playing time with the Championship promotion contenders dwindle as he attempts to fight his way back into the team.

Rosenior has issued an update on his condition, according to HullLive: “The damage he sustained against Norwich was horrible. Yes, his shoulder was injured, but he suffered a protracted concussion lasting 10 days to two weeks. That sets anyone behind; it’s a really difficult injury to overcome.

“We’ve got to give him time to develop himself, and you can see he needed the game minutes (against Curacao). I can’t put him in games while we’re battling for the playoffs and hope he’ll be well.

“I need players I can rely on, and it’s not Aarons’ fault. It’s an injury that has set him back, but I can’t simply toss him in.”

Hull City injury updates
Connolly’s injury has been a setback to Hull, as he gives valuable competition and depth up front.

He’s found a home at the MKM Stadium and a manager in Rosenior who has given him the freedom to demonstrate his abilities. However, his future in East Yorkshire remains uncertain.

When he joined the Tigers on a permanent basis last year, the forward signed a one-year contract, and it is unclear whether he will be extended.

Connolly spent the previous season on loan with Hull, when he scored twice in five appearances. He has scored eight goals this season.

The Republic of Ireland international, who has nine caps for his country, spent seven years at Brighton & Hove Albion before joining his current club.

He scored eight goals in 52 appearances for the Seagulls and spent time away from the AMEX Stadium with Luton Town, Middlesbrough, and Venezia to gain experience.

Connolly played 90 minutes for the Tigers in a friendly against Curacao last week, which should have benefited him.

Hull return to action on Friday with a home game against Stoke City following a two-week break. They then have an away game against Leeds United on Monday.
