Birmingham’s managerial changes ‘tough’ says striker

Birmingham City striker Jay Stansfield admits the managerial change at St Andrew’s this season has been difficult.

Stansfield, 21, pushed the Blues to 20th place in the Championship with his 11th goal in all competitions in a 1-0 home victory over Preston North End.

Interim manager Gary Rowett secured his first win since taking over for the absent Tony Mowbray, one of five managers to have served in City’s dugout.

Mark Venus, Wayne Rooney, and John Eustace have all taken leadership.

“It has been tough,” Stansfield told BBC Radio WM.

“You have one manager come in and you want to feel comfortable with him, and then the club decides to change. That’s their choice, and we just have to go with it. At the end of the day, they are all managers.

“They can aid us in various ways. Over the last six months, I’ve learnt a lot from different people.

Stansfield has ten goals in 37 league appearances this season, but his triumph over Preston was his first in six games for a team that had gone seven without a win.

“Over the last couple of weeks, I have felt the impact of what people say when I’m not scoring,” said the loanee from Fulham.

“I should remember that this is my first season in the Championship.

“I’m trying my hardest for the team and luckily I could prove all the people who doubted me wrong and get three points for the club.”

Stansfield is the only Birmingham player to have scored at least ten goals this season. The club is two points above the relegation zone and will face promotion-chasing Leicester City on Saturday in the first of their last six games.
