Brighton & Hove Albion announce contract extension for the versatile midfielder

Brighton & Hove Albion have announced that teenage midfielder Jack Hinshelwood has signed a new contract with the club that will last until June 2028.
The dynamic 18-year-old joined the Seagulls at the age of eight and progressed through the club’s development systems before being given his senior debut by Roberto De Zerbi in May of last year.

Hinshelwood has since made 17 first-team appearances for Brighton in all competitions this season, playing in a mixture of defensive and midfield roles.

The Worthing-born kid scored his first Premier League goal in a 2-1 home win against Brentford in December 2023, followed by 4-2 and 4-1 home wins over Tottenham Hotspur and Crystal Palace, respectively.

Hinshelwood is now injured with a foot ailment and will miss the balance of the 2023-24 season.

However, Brighton have revealed that the teenager has committed his future to the club by signing a new four-year contract.

De Zerbi: ‘Top player Hinshelwood deserves new deal’
Speaking on Brighton’s official website about Hinshelwood’s new contract, De Zerbi said, “I am very happy for Jack and his family; he has demonstrated that he is a top player and deserves this new contract.”

“We miss him a lot and are look forward to having him back fit and ready to play.”

According to technical director David Weir, “Jack is a role model, and his path inspires all of our academy players.

“His attitude on and off the pitch has been exceptional during his stay at the club; he has made an impressive transition into the first-team squad, and we are all very happy of his growth.

“Were it not for injury he would have no doubt played a lot more first-team games this season, but we are looking forward to him being back ready for pre-season this summer.”

Brighton are presently 10th in the Premier League rankings, five points behind the top seven, with seven games remaining, including a trip to Burnley on Saturday.
