Mark Robins is crossing his fingers that all of his Coventry City players who appeared in Tuesday night’s 2-1 Championship defeat at Southampton are fine after revealing a number of injury worries.
Milan van Ewijk was forced off five minutes into the second half at St Mary’s Stadium after colliding with Saints goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu. He was treated on the field for a few minutes before being carried off and replaced by Fabio Tavares. The good news is that it was nothing serious, and the versatile Sky Blues midfielder recovered fully on the night. He should be able to practice later this week ahead of Saturday’s trip to Birmingham City.
“Milan’s fine,” declared the City manager during his post-match press conference. “He simply ran into the goalkeeper and became a little winded. His momentum simply carried him into the goalkeeper, but he’ll be fine. He just needed to get off and looked like he needed some rest.”
When asked about any other problems or worries from the disastrous night on the south coast, Robins revealed: “Kasey (Palmer) had tight hamstrings, which is why he did not start. Haji’s groin was also very tight, and making modifications to preserve things and avoid further injuries is really difficult. It was always a concern going into the game, but fortunately we came out unhurt, if battered by the result.”
Matty Godden is City’s only other senior striker at the moment, but the 32-year-old has missed the last three games due to a calf strain, but he is expected to return this weekend.
