Daniel Ricciardo dealt “expect more” warning as replacement “rumour” hots up

Liam Lawson has responded to speculations that he could replace the misfiring Daniel Ricciardo.

Lawson deputised for the injured Ricciardo at AlphaTauri to great acclaim last season, but it wasn’t enough to take over the full-time race seat.

But Ricciardo’s terrible start to 2024 for the relaunched RB squad has cast a spotlight on Lawson, who is waiting in the wings.

“It’s unfortunately just rumours at the moment,” Lawson said on F1 Nation.

“To tell you the truth, I have absolutely no idea.”

Tom Kristensen, the Le Mans winner, added: “Daniel, coming [to Japan] after Melbourne, it’s a difficult start to the season.”

“He sat out the first practice, and the second practice was rained out.

“He had presumably expected another struggle.
