The 31 year old has agreed to a restructured contract with the Seattle Seahawks which will see the wide receiver return for a 10th season with the franchise

Tyler Lockett, a Seattle Seahawks veteran wide receiver, will return to the NFL organization for his tenth season after rewriting his two-year contract with the city he has called “home” since being drafted in 2015.

The contract rearrangement resulted in alterations to the guaranteed portion of the 31-year-old’s compensation, as well as a $4 million move to incentives.

Lockett will also receive a signing bonus, resulting in a $8 million reduction in his cap number to remain with the Seahawks.

“Seattle is home,” Lockett explained. “Obviously, it’s a company, so you have to look at what’s good for them while also seeing what’s good for yourself.

“With everything that I had a chance to be able to do and become, it’s really cool that you hear that the staff wants you to be on the team, as well. . . . [I] try not to get too much into the contract because I’m still kind of in a blessed situation.”

“So everyone speaks about the contract, the money, whether it’s a pay cut, or anything, but it’s enough for us to stay here. It’s enough for them to keep wanting me.

Former NFL standout and Seahawks wide receiver Michael Bumpus has heaped praise on Tyler Lockett, emphasizing his critical position in the Seattle locker room.

“He knows that for this team to be successful, he’s gotta be like the bridge when it comes to the receiver room,” Bumpus said. “I think DK (Metcalf) is a more talented receiver, but when it comes to the guy who has the calmest demeanor, who shows up to work every day not saying DK doesn’t but Lockett is just the elder statesman.”

Bumpus also compared Lockett to another Seahawks legend, saying, “He’s the Bobby Engram of the Seattle Seahawks right now.” Bobby was that person when I used to play, and it’s really vital to have experience in the room.”

“The receivers rely on Tyler Lockett.” Tyler Lockett does not appear to be the type of person who will stand in front of the audience and deliver a speech. He’s just a guy who’s going to express what’s on his mind, get folks opportunities, and be the wide receiver whisperer for the younger guys.”

“He’s just a soothing presence that I believe you need in an offense, especially a new scheme with (coordinator) Ryan Grubb over there. It was critical that they completed this arrangement.”

The 2024 NFL season is expected to begin in September, with pre-season play starting in the coming months as clubs prepare with warm-up games.
