UPDATE: The Las Vegas Raiders have just published a statement.

HENDERSON, Nev. – The Las Vegas Raiders have signed G Cody Whitehair, the club announced Monday.

Whitehair, a 6-foot-3, 316-pound offensive lineman, joins the Raiders after spending the last eight seasons (2016-23) with the Bears, after originally being taken by Chicago in the second round (56th overall) of the 2016 NFL Draft.

Whitehair has appeared in 124 career games with 118 starts (61 at center, 54 at left guard and three at right guard). He started 71 consecutive regular season games to begin his career and was nominated to the 2016 PFWA All-Rookie team and 2018 Pro Bowl.

A native of Kearney, Neb., Whitehair played four seasons at Kansas State (2012-15) where he was a four-time All-Big 12 selection and started 51-of-52 career games, including 41 consecutive starts. During his undergraduate career, he helped the Wildcats collect a 34-18 record, a Big-12 Championship in 2012 and four-straight bowl berths.

GM Tom Telesco stated earlier this year about how he builds a roster, “But as far as developing the roster, you’re working through the vision of the head

offensive, how does he want to play on defense, how does he want to play on special teams, and you create it that way. There’s a lot of debates; you work through stuff. We’re going to be able to bounce ideas off each other.”

He went on to say, “There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to roster building. I believe in the draft, which is something that everyone usually says. However, you must also consider free agency. You need to supplement that with transactions. You must supplement it by signing players who are unemployed or on the street searching for work and determining whether they can fit in.”

Adam Caplan of NFL Insiders was the first to report it.

The NFL Draft will take place in Detroit, Michigan, on April 25-27, 2024. The Las Vegas Raiders currently hold the 13th overall pick.
