Texans News: GM Wants RB Joe Mixon in Houston For ‘Few More Years’

The Houston Texans have made some major moves this summer. The squad improved its offensive during a stunning 2023 season led by Offensive Rookie of the Year quarterback C.J. Stroud.

The team is prepared to take a significant step forward, as seen by a flurry of transactions, including the acquisition of Pro Bowl running back Joe Mixon. On March 13, the Texans’ front staff traded for Mixon from the Cincinnati Bengals. The next day, Mkxon agreed to a three-year, $27 million contract extension until the 2026 season. He and the Texans are prepared to take on the AFC South, the AFC, and the entire league, store by store.

However, Texans general manager Nick Caserio hopes it lasts beyond 2026. Caserio told the media last week that he thinks Mixon will stay in Houston beyond 2026.

“Joe was scheduled to be released. When asked about acquiring Mixon, Caserio remarked, “We evaluated him and thought he could help our team in some way.” “So, to answer the earlier question, you get on the phone and talk to the staff. Hey, we’d be interested. Would you guys be willing to give up a selection, or if we did, would you be interested? That’s how the trade was completed. In relation to the commitment we made to Joe, he has been a productive and consistent player, and we believe he can help our club. We’re pleased he’s here, hopefully for a few more years. That is how it all came together.

Outside of the team’s outstanding pass catchers, the 27-year-old can still be a reliable option. Mixon recorded another 1,000-yard rushing season in 2023, the fourth of his career. Along with those 1,000 yards, he scored nine rushing touchdowns and three receiving scores and appeared in all 17 games.

The former Oklahoma Sooner has 6412 yards on 1571 carries and 49 touchdowns in 97 career games. The Bengals selected him in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft. Mixon spent his whole career with the Bengals, helping them to their third Super Bowl trip in 2021, where they lost to the Los Angeles Rams 23-20.

The Texans did not come to play this offseason. On paper, they appear to be a threat and are poised to make the next step toward becoming AFC powerhouses. Let’s see whether Mixon can do his part.
