Vikings’ Trade Bid Deemed ‘Laughable’ Ahead of Draft Insider Says

The Minnesota Vikings have attempted to woo the New England Patriots in a trade for the No. 3 pick since the Senior Bowl in February.

However, just two days before the 2024 draft, the Patriots have only found the trade proposals they’ve gotten “laughable” and have yet to see a “serious” offer that suits them, according to MassLive’s Mark Daniels on April 23.

“According to one source, the Patriots have received calls and trade offers for their first-round pick.” However, the insider stated that those proposals were ‘laughable’ and did not come close to convincing the Patriots to back down,” Daniels reported. “As of now, the team is still waiting for a ‘serious’ offer.”

Daniels’ claim should be taken with a grain of salt because he is a Patriots beat reporter. However, the grains of truth in his report cannot be dismissed entirely.

There is a definite temptation to signing a high-potential prospect like Jayden Daniels or Drake Maye, whichever quarterback the Washington Commanders do not select.

“A second source stated that he wasn’t sure that such an offer exists or that another team would be willing to put together an unprecedented package to move the Patriots off the No. 3 pick,” he wrote.

There is an argument to be made that if you have the opportunity to sign the next Josh Allen, Peyton Manning, or Aaron Rodgers, you take it.

However, the explanation is debatable.

Daniels stated that the Patriots are pleased to begin a new era at quarterback by dealing Mac Jones and signing Jacoby Brissett as part of that process.

Sure, Brissett can carry the responsibility of starting perhaps the entire 2024 season with a Patriots offense that ESPN’s Mike Clay as a bottom-three unit following a quiet free agency.

However, the Patriots have already passed on Jones, whom they drafted 15th overall in 2021. Jones led the Patriots to the playoffs and the Pro Bowl in his rookie season, but the offense’s atrophy prevented him from achieving long-term success.

The offensive is in worse shape now than when Jones came in New England. Tackle Vederian Lowe, who was a Vikings roster cut candidate before being dealt to the Patriots, started eight games and took about 500 snaps. The Patriots require more than a one-year overhaul for a rookie quarterback.

Are the Patriots willing to run it back to the quarterback at the expense of losing an even more important asset?
That’s what Daniels’ sources are saying at a convenient time – two days before the draft.

While all signs point to the Vikings wanting to take Maye early in the draft, Kwesi Adofo-Mensah stated that they are “in love” with numerous quarterbacks at different draft positions.

The offense is prepared to support a young quarterback, and the team has plenty of cap space for the future thanks to the QB’s benefits. Kevin O’Connell has demonstrated he can maximize quarterback skill and has the book on every prospect available.

The Vikings only need to select one player to have a successful draft.
