Mark Robins’ injury fear as four potentially out for final run-in and one to consult surgeon

Coventry City injury news from CoventryLive as Fabio Tavares, Victor Torp, Joel Latibeaudiere and Luis Binks are all nursing problems that could force them to sit out the remainder of the season

Mark Robins is counting the cost of Coventry City’s demanding game schedule, which he believes will leave him with up to four senior players out for the rest of the season.

Fabio Tavares and Victor Torp sustained serious injuries in Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final at Wembley Stadium, ruling them out of Wednesday night’s 3-2 defeat at home to Hull, while Luis Binks limped off with an Achilles injury and Joel Latibeaudiere aggravated an existing calf issue.

Tavares is the most concerned, with the Sky Blues manager revealing: “Fabio needs to get a surgical opinion on his ankle.” He has ligament injury, and we need to determine whether he requires surgery. I believe that will be completed tomorrow (Thurs).

“Victor tore a stomach muscle and was too in pain to play (against Hull).” “I believe it is where there is an attachment to his hip.”

He added: “Binksy had a tight Achilles at half-time and then felt it during the game and had to leave. I’m not sure how horrible that is yet. Joel Latibeaudiere developed a calf problem a long ago and has been managing it, but it has finally caught up with him a little.”

When asked if that rules them out of the next three league games of the season, at Blackburn and at home against Ipswich and QPR, he said: “I don’t know, there’s not much time left, but probably yes. Certainly Fabio, possibly Joel and Binksy; I’m not sure yet, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he missed the remainder of the season as well. I’m not sure where he’s at.

It’s a particularly tough news for Tavares and Binks, who had been informed they’d play in the final games after performing so well recently.

“Yes, it is a shame, but Fabio has done nothing wrong,” Robins said. “In reality, he has helped us tremendously in that wide position, but when he has played down the middle, he has scored some goals, gotten involved, and has begun to feel like he is back in the game. So it’s a blow, but we’ll take after him and make sure he recovers as soon as possible, whether by surgery or not. However, he will require a period of rest to recover.”

When asked if his recent good form will encourage him to push on next season, the manager replied, “There is no alternative. If he wants to be a player, he must continue to do so while remaining physically fit. But it’s a severe impact injury that was unavoidable.

Explaining what happened against Manchester United, he said, “He was crushed between two legs, which just injured his ligaments. I believe there were two players vying for the ball at the same time, and he just got trapped between their legs, causing the harm, but it was an impact.”

Regarding the blow for Bologna loan defender Binks, he added: “Yes, and I believe he has developed significantly. And he has improved despite not being on the team every week. He has waited and been patient for his opportunities, and he is a fantastic, brilliant child. He has a lot of potential, and it’s unfortunate that when you need him to succeed and there’s a chance he’ll play the rest of the season, he gets injured.

“But I’m not sure how bad it is yet, and obviously, if he’s available, he’ll play a role. But I’m not sure how significant it is yet.
