Minnesota Vikings’ has made yet another easy decision for the front office

Last offseason, the Minnesota Vikings’ front staff had an easy decision to make: pick up Justin Jefferson’s fifth-year option on his rookie contract. Today, they made a decision that was probably just as simple.

The organization has announced that it has exercised the fifth-year option on left tackle Christian Darrisaw’s contract. If the team does not extend him before then, Darrisaw will be paid around $16 million in 2025, but the organization is likely to work something out with him before then.

Darrisaw was the 23rd overall choice in the 2021 NFL Draft out of Virginia Tech, and he has joined with Brian O’Neill to offer the Vikings one of the strongest bookend tackle combinations in the NFL. After missing the first half of his rookie season to recover from abdominal surgery, he has started 39 of his 41 games with the Vikings. He also contended with concussion difficulties, which prompted him to miss a few games in 2022.

The Vikings could have waited until Thursday to determine whether or not to exercise Darrisaw’s option, but they’ve done so ahead of schedule with this move. Again, this is likely to be a formality before the Vikings give Darrisaw a longer extension, most likely after the 2024 season.
