Sky Sports make decision that will impact Sheffield Wednesday ahead of Championship final day

Despite being in a pivotal match at the bottom of the standings, Sheffield Wednesday has not been chosen for a television broadcast on the last day. The Owls, who gave themselves a significant survival boost by defeating West Brom last weekend, will battle for survival in the Championship this Saturday against Sunderland.

Danny Rohl’s team is aware that they only need a point to secure their spot in the playoffs this coming weekend; if either Plymouth Argyle or Birmingham City lose, they would still advance. Fans who are unable to travel to the Stadium of Light will not be able to watch the game live on television, but there will be plenty of pressure on that decisive day matchup with the Black Cats.

This is as a result of Sky Sports choosing to show three separate games on the championship weekend. The games between Leeds United and Southampton and Ipswich Town and Huddersfield Town will be televised, as anticipated; the outcome of the automatic promotion battle is still up in the air.

A pivotal relegation matchup has also been chosen by Sky Sports, featuring Birmingham City’s matchup against Norwich City, who will advance to the playoffs. During the broadcast, there will be updates on the Wednesday game’s goals. Considering that two clubs are now more likely to be demoted than Wednesday, the decision shouldn’t be shocking.

The goals from the Wednesday match, as well as the results of the other relegation games, may not be shown by Sky Sports during their Saturday broadcasts, but they will surely provide score updates from all around the division to keep fans informed about which teams need what to survive.
