Golden State Warriors insider makes shocking case for a potential summer reunion with Kevin Durant?

The Golden State Warriors will undoubtedly undergo changes this offseason, and one key team insider feels a reunion with the guy who won back-to-back NBA Finals MVP awards is a serious possibility.

The Warriors’ 2023-24 season was a big disappointment. While they were not seen as strong title candidates prior to the season, few anticipated them to miss the playoffs entirely after losing to the Sacramento Kings in the NBA Play-In Tournament.

With the highest salary in the league at $224 million, their season outcomes are even more terrible, which is why the roster will undoubtedly alter this summer. Klay Thompson is anticipated to test his value in free agency, while Andrew Wiggins and Draymond Green are likely to be mentioned in trade rumors in the coming months.

However, while some long-time team veterans may play elsewhere next season, NBC Sports Golden State Warriors analyst Monte Poole feels a reunion with Kevin Durant is also possible. The summer Olympics may be where discussions regarding the proposal begin.

“Any moves the Warriors make this summer will be driven by a strong desire to maximize Curry’s window. Poole noted this week, “In short, we’re adding a plug-and-play star.” “Durant and Curry will rejoin in July as part of Team USA. [Steve] Kerr is the head coach. Assuming no progress in the interim, they will have over six weeks to talk and reflect.

“[Warriors owner Joe] Lacob, who has already committed to retiring Durant’s number, may be willing to personally put out the red carpet for KD’s return. “A KD-Warriors reunion is not as far-fetched as it might seem,” he said, “It’s more conceivable than consummating a deal with LeBron James, which the Warriors considered in February.”

The 14-time All-Star and the Phoenix Suns were also a letdown this season, and there is already conjecture that he may try to leave town in the coming months. Especially if they stick with head coach Frank Vogel. Durant has learned firsthand the difficulty of building a credible title challenger with Brooklyn and Phoenix since departing the Warriors in 2019.

Since the Warriors made a significant push to trade for LeBron James earlier this year, it would make a lot more sense to bring Kevin Durant back given his previous success in Golden State and his continued great play.

Another important concern in a hypothetical trade is whether the Golden State Warriors have assets that the Suns would want in a trade. That will be the subject of great debate.
