Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl makes ‘crucial’ claim ahead of Dejphon Chansiri meeting

Danny Rohl has made a ‘crucial’ claim ahead of Sheffield Wednesday’s tough summer schedule.

Sheffield Wednesday are approaching their final game of the season, and their performance against Sunderland might decide their fate in the relegation battle.

The Owls are already three points clear of the bottom three, but a loss this weekend would force them to rely on other results.

Regardless of which league they play in next season, the club and its fans will be desperate to keep Danny Rohl despite interest from the Black Cats.

Wednesday will see conversations with the German over his future, however he has stated that this will happen after their journey to the Stadium of Light.

Rohl was asked what assurances are required for him to stay at Hillsborough, and he also underlined what is ‘crucial’ heading into the new season.

Danny Rohl defines what is ‘important’

Speaking to The Star, he stated, “I need a clear strategy of what we can and want to do.

“I am extremely hungry for more, and the mood in the stadium suggests that everyone at this club is as well. The Championship experience has shown us that we must be prepared for a difficult season, and I believe the biggest error you can make is to believe that what we are doing now is adequate.

“Now we must make the next step and for this we must bring all the things together on the table and we must speak about this. We have a clear direction on what we have to improve and if we can do this I think we can go into a good pre-season, this is important. And then we go into the next season.”

He continued, “We’ll have several meetings in the coming days.

“This is vital. The important thing to remember is that we are still unsafe. We’ve had more and more points in recent weeks and months, which is essential, as is the experience gained from the games, the Championship, and what it represents.

“You can see how quickly things change, and we must act accordingly. To accomplish this, we must use the summer and avoid doing everything in the last few weeks. It is critical that we begin the upcoming season fully equipped.”

What will convince the German to stay?

Danny Rohl’s remarks make it appear that he wants to stay at Sheffield Wednesday if they stay up.

The 34-year-old is ‘eager for more’, and if they can avoid relegation and Dejphon Chansiri can provide his financial support, it would be surprising to see him leave the club.

The Owls definitely have plenty of potential under Rohl, and if he can bring in his own players, he could do wonders.

We can already see the excellent impact that Ike Ugbo, James Beadle, and Ian Poveda had on the team despite not having any funds, so if the Thai owner was able to open his pocketbook, we could absolutely trust Rohl to strengthen accordingly.

However, it will most likely be determined by the outcome of this weekend, as the encounter with Chansiri might go very differently if they are facing a League One campaign.
