The Blackhawks benefits from burning entry-level contract years with GM Kyle Davidson’s eagerness to use up…

Signing Frank Nazar for the final three games of the season is the latest indication of Hawks General Manager Kyle Davidson’s desire to burn up entry-level contract years as soon as feasible. Lukas Reichel’s contract discussions this summer provide an illustration of why it could be a wise tactic.
Lukas Reichel will sign another deal with the Blackhawks this summer, but it will not be a large one.

The young German forward’s dismal play this season is the primary reason why he will not receive a significant raise over the $925,000 salary-cap charge borne by his now-expiring entry-level deal (per CapFriendly), and the Hawks are not happy about it.

They would have rather that he had the NHL breakout he expected this season, and they would have gladly rewarded him accordingly.
