Brighton could sign one of the most promising right backs in world football

Brighton needs extra assistance at right back, and their ideal signings would be young, talented players who can develop with the team over the course of several seasons.

Young Juanlu from Sevilla had previously been connected to Brighton. During the winter, he was also thought to be a target for Real Madrid, who might use him to provide developing depth behind club great Dani Carvajal.

According to Vamos Mi Sevilla, Brighton looks like they’re coming full circle with Juanlu this summer. The declining La Liga power may have to sell the 20-year-old to raise money.

Sevilla’s performance so far this season has been dismal; they were unable to build on their incredible comeback season, which saw them win the Europa League and save their season.

Due to injuries, Brighton has also performed below expectations and is currently struggling in the middle of the table despite making it into the Europa League the previous season.

Although Juanlu has his share of shortcomings, it would be unfair to label him a bad player after a humiliating Champions League matchup with Gabriel Martinelli, one of the best attackers in the world.

Juanlu has to improve his consistency and prevent bad errors on both the attacking and defensive ends, but he is obviously talented—Real Madrid wouldn’t consider him—and he puts in a lot of effort at work.

Juanlu is averaging 4.6 tackles, 1.0 interceptions, 1.9 completed dribbles, 1.4 crucial passes, and 1.8 fouls committed per ninety in La Liga.

These are impressive statistics for a right back and demonstrate how Juanlu’s plays do affect Sevilla as a whole. That might be advantageous for Brighton, particularly if Roberto De Zerbi—or anyone else manages the Seagulls in 2024–2025—can maximize his potential.

U21 is incredibly young for a right back. Brighton shouldn’t just recruit Sevilla’s young Juanlu and consider that to be their right back solution; in the short and long terms, he might complement an experienced right back.
