Sheffield Wednesday nearly out of the woods regarding Danny Rohl future but face one last fright

It looks like Sheffield Wednesday’s chances of keeping manager Danny Rohl may be about to improve significantly.

Prior to the summer, Sheffield Wednesday had been seeing an increase in interest in Rohl from Championship clubs.

The Black Cats first shortlisted Rohl this year, and since then, there have been ties between Sunderland and the player for a number of weeks.

More recently, it was disclosed that Hull City was also considering Rohl, following the Tigers’ decision to fire Liam Rosenior in spite of their seventh-place Championship result.

It follows Sheffield Wednesday’s 20th-place result under Rohl. Despite going winless in their first 13 league games, his team finished the campaign with 53 points after defeating Sunderland 2-0 on the last day of play.

Sheffield Wednesday approaching massive Danny Rohl increase
It was disclosed earlier this month that Dejphon Chansiri, the owner of Sheffield Wednesday, had had fruitful discussions with Rohl on his short-term future with the team.

It was also soon discovered that Rohl and Chansiri had talked about a new contract for the latter, indicating that things were proceeding as planned.

However, ties to Sunderland and, more recently, Hull City have remained. However, it appears that both teams are now taking steps to name new managers.

According to reports, Hull City is getting close to hiring Tim Walter, a former manager of Stuttgart and Hamburg, while Sunderland is now connected to Bo Svensson and unattached long-term target Will Still.

According to Alan Nixon, Sunderland will meet their potential new manager in the “next few days.” Although Rohl is still a contender for the position, it appears less probable that he will choose to join Sunderland given the current state of affairs.

That and the fact that, in order to get Rohl out of Hillsborough this summer, Sunderland would have to pay up to £10 million in compensation.

Dejphon Chansiri will wait for the announcement regarding Sunderland.
Chansiri and Sheffield Wednesday only really have to worry about Sunderland at this point because Hull City is headed in Walter’s direction.

According to Nixon, the Black Cats appear to be keeping their next manager a secret, giving the Owls one more scare about Rohl’s future. Sunderland is expected to meet this manager very soon.

However, Sheffield Wednesday can truly get going with their summer transfer intentions and preparations for Rohl’s future at the club after Sunderland’s management drama is resolved.

Sheffield Wednesday will breathe a great sigh of relief when the Black Cats appoint a new manager and guarantee Rohl’s future.

With Rohl staying, the Owls might have a very successful summer as he is expected to entice several players who are not under contract to stay as well as players Sheffield Wednesday wants to sign in the transfer market.

Not only will Chansiri be closely monitoring Sunderland’s progress, but he will also be arranging contingency plans in the unlikely event that Rohl decides to depart S6 in the upcoming days or weeks.
