Since the Seattle Seahawks selected Tyler Lockett in the 2015 draft, he has been a member of the team. At that time, the expectation was not for Lockett to become the second-best wide receiver in team history, but rather that he would excel as a kick and punt returner and fill a roster gap for Seattle. Seattle didn’t seem to have many worries in 2015, and even fewer after selecting Lockett.
Lockett was selected to the First-Team All-Pro in his debut season despite having mediocre receiving stats. In actuality, Lockett didn’t surpass 71 targets in a season until his sixth. For example, in 2023, Jaxon Smith-Njigba had 93 targets in his first season. However, Lockett was among the league’s top productive receivers from 2019 to 2022.
Despite hitting the second-highest goals of his career, his total stats declined in 2023 (122). For the first time since 2018, he fell short of 1,000 receiving yards, and he has the fewest touchdowns (5) since 2017. Lockett had his lowest catch percentage of 64.8 percent since 2017, and his second-worst yardage per reception of 11.3 was also recorded.
Even though Tyler Lockett is unlikely to play for the Seahawks in 2025, he might still be a member of the group.
The 2024 season will mark the receiver’s 32nd birthday. Although 32 is hardly old by human standards, it is ancient for a little NFL receiver who needs quickness to go open. Lockett was 35th in the league with 894 receiving yards. Lockett still has the 13th-highest cap charge among wide receivers, $18,895,000, despite his contract being revised this offseason. The ceiling amount rises to $30,895,000 in 2025, making it the third-highest.
Though he is no longer even the 13th-best receiver in the league, Lockett has been an excellent player and an even better person in Seattle. He is by no means third. By cutting Lockett, the Seahawks may save $17 million in the upcoming offseason. Lockett could play for another team, but I doubt many 12s would be interested in that, save for perhaps one very important reason.
Lockett was questioned about the coaching change at the Seahawks and his continued status with the team on a recent episode of the Jim Rome Show. Lockett praised Mike Macdonald highly, stating that he is really attentive. Lockett said that the group genuinely values him both as a player as a person. However, Lockett also mentioned that his real estate company is the Seahawks’ official realtor.
Lockett is the owner of Liv N Serve Real Estate, a business in the Seattle region. When Lockett does make the decision to stop playing, he probably will concentrate much more on his real estate business and might earn a nice life from it. The fact that the business is already affiliated with the Seahawks can only benefit him and his business. It would be more than odd for Lockett to play for a different team when a real estate corporation is a part of the Seattle Seahawks.
Tyler Lockett will probably be a Seattle resident and employee for a very long time, even though he won’t be a Seahawks player for the majority of that time. While 2024 might be his final season as a player, it might not be his last year on the squad.
