Dallas Mavericks: Jason Kidd Shares True Feelings About Potential Departure of Luka Doncic Weapon

In the 2024 NBA Playoffs, the Dallas Mavericks are in the midst of a successful run. After overcoming the Los Angeles Clippers in the opening round of the playoffs, they have advanced to the second round and are now one victory away from making it to the Western Conference finals.

The Mavs’ current roster structure seems to be working well. There is chemistry between them. Alongside superstar Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, the secondary players are playing well. One of the Mavs’ peripheral weapons is forward Derrick Jones Jr., an upcoming unrestricted free agency.

Though it appears like head coach Jason Kidd wants Jones to stay in Dallas after this season, there will be a point when he, his representative, and the Mavericks may discuss Jones’ future with the team.

Through The Athletic:

Kidd remarked, “We understand the business and that there are other teams that might be able to pay him more.” “But we’re certain we want him back.”

Jones’s one-year contract signing with Dallas in 2023 is proving to be a wise move for his NBA future. During his two previous seasons with the Chicago Bulls, he saw a decline in minutes played. However, he played in a career-high 23.5 minutes per game and averaged a career-best 8.6 points in Dallas.

In Dallas’ last two games against the Oklahoma City Thunder, he has also been outstanding. In Games 4 and 5, he scored 17 and 19 points, respectively, and he should continue to play a big part with Doncic and Irving in the future.
