Danny Rohl told to ditch ‘fantastic’ Sheffield Wednesday ace in ‘tough’ call this summer

It has been suggested that Sheffield Wednesday let one “fantastic” player to depart for free this summer.

Although they haven’t signed any of their star players to new deals, Sheffield Wednesday’s contract talks are probably well advanced.

In the final weeks of the season, half of the Owls’ starting lineup was in doubt about their futures as the team concentrated on escaping relegation.

Wednesday will be eager to negotiate with those they want to hold onto this summer now that they have managed to survive.

Barry Bannan has maintained that he has no plans to leave, despite reports that the club is already in talks with Josh Windass.

Even though several first-team regulars, like Liam Palmer, Will Vaulks, and Dominic Iorfa, have expiring contracts,

journalist Dom Howson thinks one player shouldn’t be given a new one.

“Players I’d like to see #SWFC tie down to new deals: Bannan, Windass, Palmer, Vaulks, Bernard, Iorfa, Patterson (club option)” is how Dom Howson reasons why Marvin Johnson should depart in a post on X.

“Hopefully, Beadle, Poveda, and Ugbo return for the upcoming season as well.”

“Tough one with Marvin Johnson,” he continued. This out to be one of Darren Moore’s greatest acquisitions and contributed to the historic escape. However, since he will turn 34 in December and I have a suspicion that DR would want to add more pace and youth in the wide zones, I would let him go now.

The 33-year-old deserves one more year at Sheffield Wednesday

Under Danny Rohl, Marvin Johnson has had a “fantastic” season, making 25 starts since the German’s appointment.

Ipswich Town even made a £1 million offer for the 33-year-old in January, but the Owls rejected it.

Undoubtedly, Johnson has an additional year with the club thanks to his outstanding year under Rohl and their refusal to accept a seven-figure bid just four months ago.

Despite getting close to 34 years old, he has been playing well under Rohl and gives the backline some much-needed depth.

Akin Famewo is generally preferred in the middle, but because to his versatility, he has played all over the left flank on Wednesday and is the only player who can fill in at that position with ease.

Offering Johnson a one-year contract extension seems like the wise move if he wants to stay.

If he doesn’t, though, it won’t be the end of the world. Without a doubt, Rohl will be keeping an eye on a few of his own newcomers to replace him.
