Emma Raducanu Criticises Gender Pay Gap And Responds To Critics Ahead Of Roland Garros

Emma Raducanu has criticized the gender wage gap, citing the considerable difference in remuneration between the female athletes and their male counterparts from the Rome event.

While the victors of the Madrid tournament and Roland Garros received identical compensation, the same cannot be true for Rome this week.

The winner of the women’s final, between Alexander Zverev and Nicolas Jarry, will get 250,000 euros less than the winner of the men’s final, between Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka.

Emma Raducanu has criticized the findings, stating that many women’s players are technically better than males. “A lot of women’s players are technically better,” Raducanu told The Times. The number is detrimental to the sport.

Instead of using physical force, they rely on quickness, dexterity, and intelligence. Equally, playing three sets in the slams is far better than the men’s five, which is cruel, but the ATP circuit has a significant prize money disparity, which I don’t think is fair.

Raducanu, on the other hand, is getting ready for Roland Garros qualification the next week after losing out on a wildcard into the main event.

The social media haters haven’t stopped, despite Raducanu’s steady progress over the past several weeks, while she continues her business commitments as the former US Open champion.

Speaking to his detractors, Raducanu said that people don’t understand the labor that goes into becoming an athlete behind the scenes. “There are people who watch me posing for a commercial or doing a photo shoot, but they don’t see the seven hours that I spend at the training center doing physio, working out, and hitting balls,” Raducanu said.

“However, that’s my downtime if, on a rare evening, I go to a premiere and get photographed.”

Raducanu, who advanced to the second round of Roland Garros two years ago, will be making his sole Roland Garros debut next week in Paris.
