Blackhawks sign Brett Seney to one-year with two-way contract

For another season, the Windy City squad has secured some organizational depth up front.

The Chicago Blackhawks announced on Monday that they have signed forward Brett Seney again for the 2024–25 season on a one-year, two-way contract. There is a $775,000 cap impact on the contract.

Seney just signed a new one-year, two-way contract worth a league minimum of $775,000, of which $500,000 was guaranteed.

The signing has resulted in 28 regular player contracts being signed by the Blackhawks for the upcoming season. The team’s estimated cap space is little over $33 million, according to CapFriendly.

The 28-year-old recently completed his first season with the Blackhawks after agreeing to a one-year contract in July 2022. Seney played in just four NHL games last year, with his last game coming on January 7 against the Calgary Flames, despite scoring a goal in seven games during the 2022–23 campaign.

The Rockford IceHogs, Chiscago’s American Hockey League affiliate, have been Seney’s primary home. He improved even further in the 2023–24 season, finishing the previous season with 54 points in 59 games. The London, Ontario native helped Rockford finish third in the Central Division by leading the IceHogs with a career-high 63 points in 68 games, which tied him for eighth place in the AHL scoring standings.

After being selected by the New Jersey Devils in the fifth round of the 2015 NHL Draft, Seney rose to prominence in the league. During his debut campaign in 2018–19, he scored five goals and 13 points in 15 games while playing for the Devils. Since then, the former Merrimack star has played infrequently in the league. With the Toronto Maple Leafs for a brief period, Seney played 66 games and collected 14 points, including six goals.

He has 93 goals and 164 assists in 318 AHL games, with three points in nine Calder Cup Playoff outings.
