ESPN: Kieran McKenna makes a final decision after missing out on Chelsea appointment as he makes a big announcement on Ipswich future

TalkSPORT understands that Kieran McKenna of Ipswich Town is still the front-runner to take the vacant Brighton position.

Although he has guided the Tractor Boys to consecutive promotions, the Northern Irish boss may be leaving this summer.

Additionally, McKenna has been connected to Chelsea and his old team, Manchester United, where he served as Jose Mourinho’s assistant.

TalkSPORT has learned, though, that the 38-year-old is no longer in the running to succeed Mauricio Pochettino at the Blues.

If McKenna does decide to quit the team, Ipswich is rumored to be interested in Rob Edwards of Luton as a possible replacement.

Liam Rosenior, the former manager of Hull who was fired by the Tigers despite finishing seventh in the Championship, is another candidate.

Following the announcement that Roberto De Zerbi will be leaving Brighton this summer, Brighton is presently searching for his replacement.

In September 2022, the Italian took Graham Potter’s job, and during the previous season, he led the team to Europe for the first time ever.

Although talkSPORT has learned that Chelsea prefers to select Enzo Maresca from Leicester City, De Zerbi has been connected to the position.

Therefore, McKenna might be in line to become Brighton’s manager in front of their seventh straight Premier League season the following year.

Just one point behind Leicester, the defending champions, and six points ahead of the play-offs, he led Ipswich to second place in the Championship.

Their incredible accomplishment, which completes their 22-year Premier League absence, comes one year after they were promoted from League One.

Next season, Ipswich will play in the top division alongside Southampton and Leicester, the winners of the play-off final, albeit McKenna might not be in control.

Brighton, who placed eleventh, is optimistic that they will be able to hire him before the summer.
