A video of Max Verstappen’s girlfriend’s daughter sitting in a boat corner was released, and it quickly went viral, drawing criticism from the internet.
The three-time F1 world champion Nelson Piquet’s daughter Kelly Piquet is the woman the 2023 world champion has been dating since 2020. Piquet dated Formula One racer Daniil Kvyat prior to the couple’s public announcement of their relationship, and the two had a daughter called Penelope in 2019.
Piquet frequently shows up during race weekends in support of Verstappen, who has already disclosed that he gets along well with the daughter of his girlfriend.
After a video showing Piquet, Verstappen, and others on a boat was released online, Piquet is now the target of hate mail. Penelope is seated in the ship’s corner, and Piquet is seated between Verstappen and an unidentified woman.
On Monday, @povkellypiqeue—a user account devoted to sharing movies critical of Piquet—uploaded the footage on TikTok. “P is almost out of the boat and all she can focus on is Max and making content,” the text on the video says. At least Max and the other woman are checking on P [emoji frown].”
Adding more fuel to the fire is the caption, which states: “‘tiktok’ was very quick to delete this one but here we go again. how can she care so little about her own child? this makes me feel bad for women who dream of being mothers but can’t. some people take this for granted and kelly is one of them.”
At the time of writing, the video had been viewed 937,600 times.
User @graziericciardo later published the video to X (previously Twitter), writing: “No way [crying emoji] why is P at the end of the boat that’s so terrifying? She ought to have been between k and max at the very least.” There have been 1.9 million views on the post.
“OMG, that’s so dangerous? Another X user said, “Her guardian should’ve at least been HOLDING ON TO HER, even if it was her request.
“What I’m saying, like, little girl looks like she’s about to fly off,” another person replied.
“Girlie’s hanging on for dear life,” said another.
Others, however, defended Piquet by pointing out that Penelope was really sitting in the safest place.
She’s between two adults, her spot is stable, and she’s been on boats since she was a small child. After watching a brief clip, you jump in and accuse her of being a bad mother who just gives a damn about her hair. Another X user responded, “This is her child; she wouldn’t put her in danger.”
It seems that none of you have ever been on a boat. She’s not going to take off, so this isn’t dangerous. Another person commented, “The only thing I’ll agree on is that they should all be wearing life jackets, including P.
“TBH [to be honest], if she were close to Max, she would fly off too. Since she doesn’t have to brace for lateral movement, the end of the boat is a little simpler to hold on to,” a third person commented.
“That’s the least bumpy spot on a boat,” a fourth person said. For her, that is the safest location.”
In a previous interview with Time Magazine, Verstappen stated that he gets along well with Penelope but that he has no intention of becoming her father figure.
“That’s not the goal; I’m not the father. She has a terrific relationship with her father, which is always very essential,” he stated.
“But while I’m at home, I see her every day. We have a great rapport. She’s adorable.”
