Carlton Palmer urged Danny Rohl to bring PL free agent to Sheffield Wednesday

Danny Rohl has been urged to pull the trigger on a potential summer deal for this soon-to-be free agent.

Sheffield Wednesday are making transfer headlines following their dramatic conclusion to the 2023/24 campaign.

And it looks like the Owls could sign a variety of players in a variety of ways, with owner Dejphon Chansiri reportedly ready to spend money on the right players.

Names like Ovie Ejaria and Karamoko Dembele have been linked of late; the former a free agent the latter would be a loan deal from his parent club Brest.

Elsewhere, Rohl is keen to revisit January interest in striker pair Duncan McGuire and Mika Biereth; the latter though may cost Sheffield Wednesday close to £6million.

Elsewhere, Brentford centre-back Charlie Goode has recently been linked; it’s said that he’s a possible option for the Owls ahead of his Brentford contract expiring in June.

The 28-year-old has endured a difficult four-year spell with the Bees in which he’s made just 20 total appearances for the club, spending time out on loan with the likes of Sheffield United, and last season Wigan Athletic.

Carlton Palmer urges Sheffield Wednesday to sign Charlie Goode
Speaking to Football League World, former Wednesday midfielder Palmer has urged the Owls to snap up Goode ahead of his contract expiry.

Palmer said of Goode: “He brings a wealth of experience, he’s obviously a good Championship player, he falls short of the standard that Thomas Frank needs for the Premier League, but you’ve got to get to the Premier League first.

“So he would be a solid signing for them, I don’t think they’ll be any shortage of offers for Goode, so this would be some coup if Sheffield Wednesday were able to pull off the signing.”

Goode made his name with Northampton Town. He captained the side to promotion from League Two in 2020, prompting Brentford to sign him in a reported £1million deal.

One key concern over Charlie Goode to Sheffield Wednesday
Like Palmer says, Goode would bring experience to the side. But many fans on social media are questioning whether or not Goode would be fit enough to last a whole season, let alone in an intense Rohl set up.

Since joining Bretford in 2020, Goode has made just 31 total league appearances in four seasons, with injuries often curtailing different loan spells, all boasting mixed reviews.

Prior to joining Brentford, Goode was one of the hottest names in the lower leagues of the EFL, so there’s no denying that there’s a player in there.

And if anyone can get him back on track, it’s Rohl; he’s done so with the likes of Marvin Johnson at Sheffield Wednesday in the season just gone, as well as Will Vaulks and Pol Valentin among others.

But if Goode can’t find fitness then Rohl can’t help him find his form. He’s got a pre-season to get back on his feet though and if he can maybe come in for a trial and show Rohl what he can do and where he’s at, it could be a signing with a lot of potential.
