Shocking News: Luka Doncic gives a powerful statement on facing Celtics in NBA Finals

There will be a lot of star power in the Boston Celtics vs. Dallas Mavericks NBA Finals in 2024.

The Mavs’ Luka Doncic and the Celtics’ Jayson Tatum are two first-team All-NBA players. Both Kyrie Irving of the Mavericks and Jaylen Brown of the Celtics are All-NBA players. Both sides have assembled a potent supporting cast around their stars.

That being stated, it is not surprising at all that the Celtics are the front-runners for the Larry O’Brien Trophy.

They finished the regular season with the best record in the league, 64-18, seven wins ahead of any other team. They then dominated the Eastern Conference playoffs, winning 12-2. In addition to having home court advantage in the Finals, the C’s have won eight consecutive away from home throughout the playoffs.

Doncic is aware of the difficulty Dallas will face in the Finals.

In his news conference on Thursday, Doncic declared, “I mean, they’re the best team in the NBA,” following his team’s elimination of the Minnesota Timberwolves in the Western Conference Finals.

“They had some amazing offensive and defensive weapons, and they had by far the best record. To defeat them, we’re going to need to play incredibly hard and fantastic basketball.”

In their two regular-season encounters with the Celtics, Doncic averaged 35 points, 15 rebounds, and 12 assists per game. However, the C’s won both games handily—119-110 in Dallas on January 22 and 138-110 in Boston on March 1.

In this forthcoming series, Doncic and Irving should score 50–65 points a game combined. The Mavericks’ true challenge is whether their role players can step up and provide a steady scoring threat.

TD Garden will host Game 1 of the NBA Finals on Thursday, June 6. Every Finals game will be covered by NBC Sports Boston before, during, and after the game.
