Rory McIlroy makes a big announcement on his retirement due to his….

Hamilton — Golf superstar Rory McIlroy announced on Sunday that he intends to play in the RBC Canadian Open for many years to come, which should be great news for Canadian golf fans in general and the tournament’s supporters in particular.

The Toronto Sun questioned McIlroy after his final round about what he loves about the competition and if majors like the RBC Canadian Open have a certain quality that money cannot purchase.

Without a doubt. I consider golf’s legacy, tradition, and history to be very important aspects of the game. In response, McIlroy said, “This is one of the oldest championships in the world.” The Opens have a different meaning, for sure.

“It’s fantastic that so many individuals, including RBC and Golf Canada, are supporting the RBC Canadian Open and helping to make it truly memorable. As I previously stated, I enjoy coming up here to play each year, and I will continue to do so until they tell me I am not permitted to cross the border.

Even though McIlroy finished the week at 13-under par at Hamilton Golf and Country Club after an incredible six-under 64, it wasn’t enough as Victor Perez’s group birdied the 18th hole to go one group ahead and send McIlroy to the airport.

McIlroy has won the RBC Canadian Open twice, most recently in Hamilton in 2019.

He also voiced his opinion about the Maple Leafs, expressing hope that next year will be the right one, just as Toronto supporters have done for the past fifty years.

Along with, well, maybe millions of locals and Canadians, I would certainly love that, McIlroy remarked. “I don’t know much about the Leafs, but a few nights ago I had dinner with someone who is pretty intimately involved. It sounds like they’re making some changes this off-season, and maybe that will be the spark that gets them to the playoffs and maybe even a Stanley Cup.”
