Blue Jays GM makes big announcement on trade rumors surrounding 2 star players

There have been rumors that the Toronto Blue Jays, who are still having trouble, would consider taking Bo Bichette and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. in a trade. GM Ross Atkins responded forcefully to the rumors on Sunday.

Atkins stated on MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM that the Blue Jays have no intention of trading either of their two outstanding players. Quite the reverse; instead, the company is trying to get them to sign long-term contract renewals.

We are in communication with them, and we intend to stay that way. We have faith in them. We hope they can play here for a very long time because we have faith in their futures,” Atkins remarked. For us, (a trade) just doesn’t make sense. Sometimes when you’re speaking with other executives, they’ll ask if we’ll take a look at something, and we’ll just respond that we haven’t given it any thought. Other teams will call them since they are drawn to them due to their talent and excellent teamwork. It doesn’t make sense, therefore I was disturbed to learn that another CEO had made that observation about our team.

After the 2025 season, Bichette and Guerrero, each, will have one more year of team control before becoming unrestricted free agents. Guerrero has left the door open to maybe testing the market, while Bichette, at least, was connected to deals throughout the offseason.

The Blue Jays started the season at 27–30, so if things don’t improve, adjustments may need to be made. That may entail the relocation of some other veterans.
