Dawn Staley sparked some wild reactions for this as Staley’s sends huge message to Sky rookie Kamilla Cardoso

Head coach of the South Carolina women’s basketball team Dawn Staley was overjoyed to watch her former teammate Kamilla Cardoso make her WNBA debut on Saturday with the Chicago Sky. She might have been overly delighted, though, and failed to notice a crucial element of the match: the outcome.

Cardoso, who missed the first few games of the 2024 season because of a preseason injury to her shoulder, returned to the Sky team for their matchup against the Indiana Fever and Caitlin Clark. Cardoso put up a strong performance, finishing with 11 points and six rebounds in her 18 minutes of play, but it was not enough as they ultimately fell short, 71-70.

Cardoso’s formal WNBA career began today, and Staley was clearly delighted about it, congratulating the center on this historic event. However, since the Gamecocks coach inadvertently stated that Cardoso and the Sky won the game, her heartfelt message to Cardoso has been the target of abuse.

“Congratulations, @Kamillascsilva, on your first-ever @WNBA victory—and a successful one at that. The “Sky” serves as your ceiling. Staley contributed to X (formerly Twitter).

Here, Dawn Staley is just serving as a helpful coach, and it’s very great to watch her assist her former players.

Although it’s acceptable to make mistakes, many people were perplexed as to why Staley didn’t remove the post even after it had been up for hours. Additionally, X now has an edit feature, thus the problem might have been easily resolved.

Maybe Staley isn’t that active on social and quickly closed her phone after sending the message? Or maybe it was a scheduled, pre-typed message? Regardless of the case, many are using it for some laugh.

Many people pointed out Dawn Staley’s error in the post’s comments section.

“Dawn they lost,” someone commented. “There’s still time to delete this,” remarked a different social media user.

“**whispers** Sadly, they were defeated. Dawn, please remove this. A third fan commented, “Lol.”

Many, however, were quick to support Staley, pointing out that Kamilla Cardoso’s personal victory—rather than the game—was what the NCAA champion coach was discussing. That may be the reason Staley isn’t amending her post, even though several people have already tried to correct her and it has been hours after she sent it.

She did, for sure! Our girl, who turned fourteen years old, is finally fulfilling her dream! A supporter said, “Her Twitter aunties are too proud!” In agreement, another person said, “You guys need to realize that Dawn is aware that they aren’t going to win. There must be some sort of personal gain involved. Despite having limited time, she performed well. I really enjoyed seeing it.

She is aware that the Sky lost. A admirer went on, “She said what she said!”

To clarify, another X user said, “I mean, I agree. In her own manner, Kamilla Cardoso prevailed.

Could it be that Staley was truly discussing Cardoso’s achievement of realizing her WNBA ambition on a personal level? Or perhaps, given that she did discuss Cardoso’s production, it was a sincere error?

We’ll probably never find out until Staley reacts to the responses she’s receiving.

On Tuesday, Kardoso and the Sky will meet the New York Liberty in their first game back. Cardoso is probably going to watch the game as well, given that collegiate basketball is in its summer. By then, perhaps we’ll have an explanation.
