63-year-old Padres owner and chairman Peter Seidler passed away, which is devastating news out of San Diego.

The heartbreaking news was released by the club early on Tuesday morning.
The Padres organization is in deep sorrow over the loss of our cherished owner and chairman, Peter Seidler. Our thoughts and prayers are with Peter’s family today as they mourn the death of a remarkable brother, uncle, friend, father, and husband. Peter was a loving, giving man who was committed to his spouse, kids, and larger family. He also always showed genuine sympathy for other people, particularly the less fortunate. Generations to come will be affected by his influence on the baseball community and the city of San Diego. Now, his giving nature is deeply ingrained in the Padres. Peter was our owner and chairman, but he was a Padres fan at heart. We shall really miss him.

Seidler, a two-time cancer survivor, was recuperating following an unidentified September treatment. He had been suffering from a sickness for some months.

While the team grieves the loss of a great owner and a wonderful guy, The Padres will halt all non-essential operations.

Growing Up with Peter Seidler
Peter Seidler hailed from a baseball-loving family. The storied Brooklyn and Los Angeles Dodgers owner was his grandpa, Walter O’Malley. Raised in such a setting, Seidler gained a deep appreciation and knowledge of baseball, which helped him subsequently run the Padres.

A New Vision for the Padres
The Padres entered a new chapter after Seidler acquired the team. His visionary leadership offered a new outlook and a dedication to creating a successful business. There were big changes with the Padres during Seidler’s ownership. His desire to invest in elite players demonstrated his love for the game and victory.

Seidler was well-known for his community service outside of the field. He became a well-liked personality because of his dedication to the San Diego region through a number of humanitarian endeavors and neighborhood projects.
