SKYSPORTS: Slovenia reveals Mavericks’ Luka Doncic plan before Olympic qualifiers

Luka Doncic continues to play basketball even after the Dallas Mavericks’ NBA Finals defeat. In the upcoming weeks, he will be representing Team Slovenia in the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament. However, his injury is still a cause for concern. The superstar frequently displayed pain-streaked facial expressions while hobbling around during their series against the Boston Celtics. How prepared is he going to be, and what will happen if he needs to play through the pain?

According to Grant Afseth of Sports Illustrated, Luka Doncic will be evaluated by Team Slovenia prior to the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament. In the NBA Finals against the Celtics, the Mavericks star was briefly deemed doubtful but was ultimately cleared to play. Thus, the Mavericks may aspire for another trip to the NBA Finals the following year if he uses the offseason to recuperate or have a surgery done.

Team Slovenia will travel to Lithuania for two exhibition games before to the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament, whether or not they have Doncic. Their first game, which will take place in Greece on July 2, will be against Croatia.

Doncic was questioned about his plans for the offseason after the Mavericks’ collapse in Game 5 of the NBA Finals handed the Celtics the victory. He gave a rather glib response that did not reveal too much.

“Dude, I don’t want to discuss what comes next. I have to make a few choices. All I’m attempting to do is become slightly healthier. I take it that our interviews are in two days? Thus, I’ll respond to you then,” the famous person remarked.

He frequently had doses of painkillers, particularly during the Celtics series. Doncic took a number of hits during their postseason campaign. He started the second round already hurting after playing through a right knee sprain against the Los Angeles Clippers. Then, when they played the Shai Gilgeous-Alexander-led Oklahoma City Thunder, his left ankle became sore. His thoracic contusion that followed made it difficult for him to play the way he did against the Celtics.

It’s obvious that the Team Slovenia and Mavericks player needs some sleep. He has, however, committed to playing for his country. If he felt comfortable doing so and the team gave the go-ahead, that was the condition. Despite his injuries, Doncic continued to contribute greatly to Jason Kidd’s team.

He had absurd numbers as their postseason season came to an end. He scored 31 points per game and made 50% of his shots from all three levels of the scoring area. With the Mavericks, he demonstrated his playmaking abilities by dishing out 8.7 assists per game, which greatly aided in attracting players such as Josh Green, Dereck Lively II, and PJ Washington.

In spite of this, it could be wiser to take extra precautions for Doncic’s benefit. That might be necessary for Team Slovenia and the Mavericks to maintain the longevity of their best player.
