The Big 12 laid out the Arizona State Sun Devils and Arizona Wildcats’ first season in a new conference on Thursday by releasing the 2024–25 men’s and women’s basketball fixture assignments without timings or TV information.
Fans in the Tempe area may look forward to seeing the Sun Devils play home games at Desert Financial Arena against Texas Tech, Houston, and Baylor.
The Wildcats in McKale Center will play Texas Tech, Houston, Iowa State, and Baylor.
Notably, Arizona and ASU will not host Kansas, the conference’s top team, the following season. That might give rise to complaints about the Wildcats and the schedule planners.
The Jayhawks are thought to be the top team to begin the upcoming campaign. On paper, Houston, Iowa State, and Baylor are also thought to be among the top ten teams.
In comparison to their sister former Pac-12 colleges in Colorado and Utah, the Arizona schools are noticeably more isolated.
The Sun Devils will only go to Utah; they will play Colorado both at home and away. The Wildcats won’t travel to Colorado or Utah; they will only host those two teams.
With ASU and Arizona facing BYU and Texas Tech, the two closest universities to Arizona along with Utah and Colorado, in a home-and-away series this upcoming season, location still seems to be relevant for the men’s team. Kevin Young, a former star assistant coach for the Phoenix Suns, will serve as BYU’s head coach. Mark Pope left the Cougars this season to take John Calipari’s post at Kentucky.
Arizona and ASU have the same schedule of opponents for the women’s team. Notably, they are home to Iowa State and Baylor, two highly anticipated teams.
There are home and road sets for both Arizona schools’ games against Utah and BYU.
