Breaking News: 2 injured 49ers stars return to practice ahead of Week 5

The San Francisco 49ers had an encouraging indication on the injury front to open Friday’s practice.

Reporters gathered at the SAP Performance Center reported seeing tight end George Kittle and linebacker Fred Warner on the field. Kittle has a rib injury to contend with. Warner has a problem with his ankle. The sessions on Wednesday and Thursday were missed by both players.

How much practice they get will be up to them is a mystery. A light practice on Friday would not be good for their hopes of playing in the Arizona Cardinals game on Sunday. Both would probably be good to face up against their NFC West foe if they are both full participants.

Warner has been among the NFL’s top defensive players this season. In addition to having 1.0 sack, four pass breakups, three forced fumbles—a league-high—and two interceptions, one of which was recovered for a score, he has 27 tackles.

Although Kittle hasn’t produced many spectacular plays, his stats are still impressive. With a hamstring injury that kept him out of action during Week 3, he has 15 receptions for 161 yards and two scores on 17 targets.

The 49ers and Cardinals are expected to start off at 1:05pm Pacific Time at Levi’s Stadium.
