According to police, a mass shooting in Philadelphia on Memorial Day has left at least two people dead and nine injured. According to the Philadelphia Police Department, gunfire broke out just before 10.30 p.m. on Monday when a sizable crowd of youths gathered in Fairmount Park near Lemon Hill Drive and Sedgley Drive. According to Philadelphia Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel, “individuals” shot “fire into a crowd,” killing a man and woman and injuring nine minors, including three who were 15, 16, and 17.
All nine of the survivors are in “stable condition,” Bethel said. The identity of the victims has not yet been revealed.
“This is significant,” the police commissioner told reporters early Tuesday. “This is Memorial Day, where we honor those who gave their lives in war.”
