ESPN: Yankees star to miss the MLB playoffs and doubtful for the American League Division Series

The New York Yankees concluded the MLB regular season top of the American League standings with a 94-68 record, a berth assured in the postseason with the luxury of being able to relax during the Wild Card Series.

In the AL Division Series, the Bronx Bombers will play again. Yankee Stadium will host the first game on October 5. The Baltimore Orioles and Kansas City Royals, the victors of their respective series, will be their rivals.
The club led by Aaron Boone has not had an easy time of it. First baseman Anthony Rizzo suffered two fractured fingers in his right hand after taking full advantage of a Ryan Borucki slider in the seventh inning of the weekend game against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Rizzo has not been placed on the 10-day disabled list, so there is a chance that he could be able to return later in the AL Division Series. In the interim, Boone will need to rotate some.

Although Rizzo will stay on the active roster, Boone may choose to use Oswaldo Cabrera, DJ LeMahieu, or Ben Rice as his starting first baseman if it turns out that he is unable to play.

“I prefer not to make snap decisions. Boone told the media following Sunday’s victory, “We’ll see how he responds in the next few days before we kick this thing off in a week.

We’ll see how the week goes, his level of tolerance, and what is reasonable. But for the time being, he’s just making an effort to think positively about it. Chris Ahmad, the team physician, stated that this injury is conducive to a problem with pain tolerance. Playing doesn’t put anything in danger for you. Just put, are you able to manage it? He continued.

Meanwhile, Rizzo expressed optimism about participating in the postseason, saying, “Yes, absolutely,” in response to a question regarding his likelihood of making the ALDS. “Yes, in my opinion. Actually, I’m not sure. We’ll see.
