Wrexham owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have been warned that they could be priced out of securing their top targets in the January transfer window

Wrexham owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have been advised that securing their top targets in the January transfer window may be difficult.

After a good start to life back in the EFL, the Red Dragons are currently third in League Two. They’ve also progressed to the fourth round of the FA Cup after defeating cross-border rivals Shrewsbury Town. In the following round, they will face Championship side Blackburn Rovers.

But, since it’s January, the only thing on everyone’s mind is who Wrexham might recruit to bolster their already excellent promotion credentials. According to reports, the club is interested in Peterborough United’s Jonson Clarke-Harris and Sheffield Wednesday’s Lee Gregory.

Carlton Palmer, a former England international, has issued a warning ahead of any move for the pair. He told Football League World (via the Mirror), “Wrexham, going for back-to-back promotions, are interested in signing Lee Gregory and Jonson Clarke-Harris.”

“Both are proven League One goal scorers, with Gregory earning promotion to the Championship with Sheffield Wednesday at the last minute last season.” Both players will not be cheap, but if they are retained by their clubs until the end of the season, Wrexham will have two gifted League One strikers and simply have to find their pay, which will not be cheap.”

“I don’t think Peterborough will let Harris leave for free, so Wrexham may have to pay a fee in January if they want him.” According to reports, Peterborough has previously rejected offers for him and would not allow him to leave cheaply.”

Wrexham’s co-owners’ business activity in January has so far been mostly concentrated on new deals for Elliot Lee and Paul Mullin. As a reward for their efforts, the Racecourse Ground players were awarded new contracts until the end of the 2026-27 season.

Before the January transfer window started, Dragons manager Parkinson admitted that he couldn’t promise the club will make any additional moves this winter. He admitted, hesitantly, “I don’t want to make any predictions for January in terms of incoming players.”

“We have a strong squad, but we are always looking for new players.” As our supporters are aware, we are constantly working to improve and are now examining a number of circumstances, but we are holding our cards close to our chest.”
