Chicago Blackhawks GM Kyle Davidson reveals the Blackhawks has ‘dictate what’s next’ at No. 2 overall

Chicago, Illinois – The Chicago Blackhawks were aware that things will be a little different in 2019.

When they won the 2023 NHL Draft Lottery, they were fortunate enough to receive the first overall pick. Connor Bedard ended up in Chicago as a result.

Davidson stated, “I believe people knew the answer and they chose not to call.”

This year, the Hawks were not selected with the first overall pick. However, they literally got the next best thing. In the 2024 NHL Draft Lottery, Chicago was selected with the second overall pick on Tuesday.

This offers general manager of the Blackhawks, Kyle Davidson, an opportunity to supervise the 2024 NHL Draft.

According to Davidson, “we probably know where number one is headed.” “We sort of decide what comes next. That’s exciting, therefore.

The San Jose Sharks, who had the best overall likelihood at No. 1, and the Blackhawks, who had the second-best odds, were the two teams left in the lottery.

No. 1 will probably be Macklin Celebrini, a center from Boston University. It’s all open after that. This enables the Blackhawks to select their player and makes the other teams react to their choices.

When the Hawks front office revealed the number one overall pick, it was only fitting.

Even though Chicago wasn’t ranked first, it didn’t detract from the atmosphere.

Davidson remarked, “I had a little flashback to last year.” “But that’s the way it went and that’s totally fine.”

It’s OK for Davidson because the Blackhawks have a ton of prospects in their pipeline who are ready to play in the NHL.

This gives Chicago the opportunity to select the player that best suits the Chicago Blackhawks or the greatest player available.

Davidson refuses to consider the prospect’s readiness for the NHL. The player must be the most valuable asset to the Blackhawks, either as the top player on the club or as the best player available.

“We’ve done a really exciting job establishing depth in our prospect pool,” Davidson stated. That’s crucial. We want a large number of guys to emerge and vie for positions.”

The Blackhawks will talk to each other. There will be long talks during those as well.

However, the group is aware of how they would like those discussions to proceed.

“You go for the player you think is going to be that much better, that is the highest ceiling,” said Davidson. “There are also talks about ceiling versus floor, weight of risk, and predictability. However, I believe that generally speaking, particularly at number two, you’re probably looking at comparable time to the NHL and ceiling. I don’t think speed to the NHL really matters, but we’ll sort of argue those points.”

The ability to bring in a cornerstone is crucial for the Blackhawks.

Last year, the cornerstone was constructed. Bedard’s luck brought him to Chicago.

It’s past Bedard now.

Davidson stated, “This is about building a team.” “It’s always been about building a team and not just one player.”
